In angling, using the 'hook' in consequentially relevant to the term 'canyon' which in antiquated usage meant 'throat.' Old individuals relied on chasms to fish; these were long as well as slices of bone attached midway on a slim angling line. A lure was connected to the chasm to ensure that it would exist parallel to the line; when a fish took the bait the angler carefully yanked the line so that the canyon oriented itself in an appropriate angle to the line, attaching itself to the fish's craw. Thus, a fish hook was looked at as a tool to capture fish by 'hooking' them in the mouth, or by snagging the fish totally.
